3-Dimensional Hiragana

His website provides an example using the first character of the table, あ (a).
There's front, top and side, can you make up which is which?

I felt, all of them have got the possibility of being a individual word. hmm.

STELLAR LIGHT BY TOKUJIN YOSHIOKA

Obviously this piece is for Swarovski, but I want to know if Tokujin Yoshioka, the creative force behind Stellar, had a muse. "Who do you design for?" I ask. "Who or what guided you in the pursuit of this design?"

"I want to know also," he replies quietly. It is clear that Tokujin is driven by something indescribable inside. What he really treasures is people appreciating his designs. "I want people to appreciate it and have a new experience; to experience it as an emotional moment." So he knows he designs for viewers, but admits to designing for himself as well. "I also want to be moved."

Humbled underneath Stellar, it is impossible not to be moved. Even the most jaded of viewers must admit to a measure of awe and respect inspired by this volume of light.

Stellar was based by Tokujin's earlier Venus Chair, but for this project the natural crystals were grown in an aquarium in Milan with material sent from Tokyo. "What sort of challenges did this project present?" I asked.

He replied, "When we were working on the Venus project, we stopped all work on other projects for one year. I created the Venus chair in my studio, and I even had to move my car out. It looked more like a laboratory, than a design studio. It was a challenge because I cannot control nature; there is no instruction manual. It is something you cannot draw by hand or be calculated. But each form has a reason: when we look at forms in nature, everything is in place for a reason."

chair garden

A stool grows a backrest, and becomes a chair. When an armrest sprouts from it, it is an armchair. The stool grows sideways, and becomes a bench, or lengthwise and becomes a lounge chair, or even a bed. If we can see a piece of furniture's function changes as it grows and matures over time, we may find new clues, even a way to design form naturally. This installation explores ways of determining form based not on function or a modular system derived from the proportions of the human body, but on 'furniture that grows'.

nendo is one of my favorite company. The design always draws my attention. This is his latest 2010 work.

NENDO beliefs
Giving people a small " ! " moment.
There are so many small " ! " moments hidden in our everyday.

But we don’t recognize them.
and even when we do recognize them,we tend to unconsciously reset our
minds and forget what we’ve seen.

But we believe these small " ! " moments are what make our days so
interesting, so rich.

That’s why we want to reconstitute the everyday by collecting and
reshaping them into something that’s easy to understand.

We’d like the people who’ve encountered nendo’s designs to feel these
small " ! " moments intuitively.

That’s nendo’s job.

The Invisibles by Tokujin Yoshioka

Designer Tokujin Yoshioka has created a collection of "invisible" furniture for Kartell employing their pioneering polycarbonate technology - the collection features a thickness never before seen or manufactured.

Tokujin Yoshioka explains "In the last few years I have been thinking about a design that would include natural phenomena and invisible elements such as senses, wind and light. The 'Invisible', a special collection launched from Kartell, only leaves the sense as if seating in the air. The presence of the object is eradicated and it will create a scenery of a sitter floating in the air. It is as if the physical presence of the object has been uprooted and gives life to a 'floating' scenario. Even the installation itself gives visitors that extraordinary sensation of entering an unreal world."

The Invisible collection encompasses tables, occasional tables, sofas, armchairs and benches.

Kartell is also collaborating with the Yoshioka to create an installation in the Milan flagship store, for Milan Design Week next month, as a backdrop to showcase the new range of invisible pieces.

Gianluca Fallone

Gianluca Fallone

"Fallone’s stance is simple —’I love type and design, and I particularly like when both are present — and evident in much of his work. He is inspired by Japanese animation and comic books that also triggered his ’illustration-design rollercoaster,’ and his pieces are beautifully crafted and extremely detailed. Fallone is putting his mark on the Argentinean design world, and we are expecting to see great things from this young and amazingly talented artist."

I stumble upon his work by virtue of the cool hunter and was evoke by the graphic posted up. Incredible! I especially like his "about" over at the site, not much of a text, a little sprinkle of humor and image does the talking.

The not so simple watch

Issey Miyake, a known fact to all my peers that I love love love him. I gore at his design, put on the perfume, stalk on him. I know this watch of his been out quite awhile now. Well, good design can withhold time. Know what? This is with Naoto Fukasawa (Skin it off)

Case designed after the shape of a hexagon wrench, representing the simple beauty of tools.

Minimalist design in its the ultimate form. Each angle of the dodecagon glass represent the hour.

Concept:

I tried to design a watch which is simple and as strong as possible. I wanted to eliminate all markings, even numbers, from the face.

This inspired me to give the crystal itself twelve sides. With the angles of the case serving as the hour markers, I only had to add the hour and minute hands, both having the same width equal to the diameter of the central post.

The result is a sharp face distinguished by the unique angular shape and wide hands. I feel that this strong clear and simple design is suitable for the brand ISSEY MIYAKE.

Teaser

Apart from Issey, Tokujin Yoshioka's is one other idol I worshipped, slowly as it, keep me on track, his new work for Moroso remains a mystery will soon be reveal.

---

Tokujin

"I have pondered on expressing the texture of material in nature through use of industrial products.

This new product for Moroso might be a reminiscent of clouds in the sky and the flow of water that are breathed in one's memories.

I am fascinated by the elements of nature because they are not deliberated on purpose, but they have the beauty born of coincidence beyond human imagination."
